Norman Baker MP says use wood in Olympics
Norman Baker MP has responded to calls from local joinery manufacturing group Specialist Joinery (South) Ltd to back the 'Wood for Gold' Campaign, which is seeking to ensure that the Olympics and the legacy Olympic Park is environmentally sustainable and makes the best use of renewable building materials such as wood. The Ringmer based company known through its trading names of Westgate Joinery, Hailsham Joinery and The Green-Wood Company wants to see wood widely used in Olympic buildings especially the Olympic village.
The campaign has received widespread support from politicians throughout the UK who recognise the contribution that using wood makes to lowering the carbon footprint of the Games.
Welcoming the campaign Mr Baker said, "I am fully supportive of the campaign's objectives, which will raise the profile of using wood as a major contribution to reducing the Games carbon footprint. This will benefit firms like Specialist Joinery (South) Ltd which can only be good for the economy here in the Lewes District; I hope I can use my influence to ensure that this issue is given the serious hearing it deserves both within Parliament but more importantly by those constructing the Games buildings."
